  jill moran’s book ‘how to start a home based event planning business’ was tremendously helpful to me as i navigated the new business start up waters. she has practical suggestions on pricing, record keeping, and marketing. a MUST tool for anyone considering entering the event planning business.

  This book is excellent for anyone that is starting out and wants the 411 on how to start it off right! I am thoroughly impressed with the publication. The author covers just about every end. I highly recommend this book. I learned quite a bit.

  From the foundation to the long run it’s full of great advice and instruction. I would recomend it to any new buisiness owner.

  Perfect for the business end of landscaping or design. Things that they didn’t teach you in college. This book is an asset for almost any home based business. Thank you Owen, it’s just what I needed.

  This book definitely contains the best business advice and most reliable information you will find if you want to enter into landscaping or general yard work. It gives you all the tools you need to start your business, addressing Profit and Loss Statements and other accounting tools. What it doesn’t cover is the technical aspects of landscaping itself, such as how to install a sprinkler system or prune/trim a shrub. For this knowledge you have to look elsewhere. However, this book is still a necessity for understanding how the landscaping business works at a fundamental level, and is full of terrific advice on how to conduct yourself, set limitations, and know what is right for you. Don’t stop here if you are serious about getting into landscaping, but this is as good a starting place as any if you want to learn more about what it takes to succeed as a home-based landscaping business.

  The book covers all of the basic neccesitites to getting starting. It also breaks each component down with easy to understand detail. Getting things gowing is hard enough on your own, its great to have this as a reference guise as you go. Would reccomend to all beginers in the landscaping business.

  I read a lot (and I mean a lot, as I have thousands of books in my library), but this is one of the very few business books I’ve been truly inspired and uplifted by. When I say “the only book you need to succeed in catering” it’s not only a cliche, I believe it’s really true! In her writing, the author strikes the fine balance between telling you the ‘real deal’ and hardships of starting your own business, while managing to keep you motivated and telling you about all the positive that can come out of your efforts as well. It is extremely detailed, honest, passionate, and credible. This has truly been a fantastic help to me while I’m planning to launch my own catering business next year. Brava!!!

  When I made the decision recently to start my own catering business I immediately turned to this book. It’s filled with invaluable tips and clear explanations of every facet of the catering business. Vivaldo not only shares her equations for success but also reflects on her mistakes. Her clear and direct style make this book easy to read and understand. I especially appreciated Chapter 5: Setting Prices, Estimating Quantities and Writing Proposals. This section is full of food costs analysis, proposal examples and pricing information. I’m a seasoned cook but I still have a thing or two to learn on the business side. If you’re even considering starting your own catering business read this book. Thank you, Diane!!!

  …this book contains a lot of useful information, precautions and advices. The author gives also titles of books that are required for the caterer.

  I was interested in starting a part time catering business out of my home. Meaning part-time, cooking in my home. This book was very thorough but pointed out what I had found in the mean time that this is not possible. By working out of your home, this book means that you can run the business aspect (i.e. planning, selling, etc) out of your home. Separate (costly) kitchen facilities are required in most staes. So, while this book was informative for someone who is willing to put their career on the line and solely do catering, it did not work for my purposes.
